Dimithri Liyanage began his career approximately 25 years ago in the IT sector. After an early career working as a technical specialist providing application and infrastructure technical support, he transitioned to the Financial Sector.

 

There, he worked with banks, insurance companies, and the stock exchange, building his expertise in regulations, privacy, and standards. His passion for cybersecurity and GRC (governance, risk, and compliance) eventually led him to the startup world. For the past few years, he has been serving as the head of security, risk, and privacy at an Australian company that assists developers in writing secure code.

 

Michael Nijs, the founder of Maiky, was working as an internal auditor at the same company at the time. One day, they started discussing Michael's self-developed GRC platform. Dimithri was given an early demo and provided extensive feedback. To his satisfaction, he found that many of his suggestions were integrated into the Maiky software.

In his capacity as a cybersecurity leader, Dimithri had previously worked with dozens of other GRC tools. His biggest frustration was always the abundance of menus and options.

 

“Most tools on the market are powerful, but they are difficult to access without in-depth training,” he explains. “You can compare it to Excel: that programme is fine for those who are experts in macros, but can be confusing for those who just want to get something done quickly. What most users need is a tool that simply does what you ask.”

 

“That gap in the market is now filled with Maiky. The strength of this platform lies mainly in its simplicity, user-friendliness, and adaptability. The modules for, for example, risk management and audit are logically structured and intuitive. Maiky makes it easy for us to link risks to standards such as ISO and SOC 2, without many manual actions. Previously, this was done via spreadsheets; now everything is integrated and automated. “The Trust Centre gives our clients easy access to all kinds of security documents and NDAs (non-disclosure agreements),” he says. “It not only saves us and them a lot of time, but also increases transparency. The Maiky platform is also approached holistically: it covers not only GRC but also privacy aspects, among others. This makes the software suitable for multiple departments within an organisation, without the need for different tools.”

"Actively involved in the entire implementation." 

The basic implementation of Maiky, such as uploading risk registers, documentation, and data into the existing company structure, went smoothly according to Dimithri.

 

The integration with internal systems via APIs, to automatically gather evidence, was a slightly bigger challenge. “That process experienced some delays due to certain permissions,” Dimithri explains. However, he emphasises that such issues are very company-specific. “The implementation of the core functionalities went very smoothly anyway,” he concludes.

 

Dimithri is also very satisfied with the support during the integration of Maiky.

 

“Michael, founder of Maiky,  and his team were actively involved in the entire implementation,” he says.

 

“The direct contact with the developers ensured quick response times. Questions or issues were generally resolved within 24 hours, unless a software update was needed. But even then, it was usually available after two or three days.”

“In principle, we can expect an answer to our questions within 24 hours. Our own feedback is also taken seriously. New ideas are thoroughly discussed, and they are often incorporated into the further development planning of the software. In short: Maiky truly listens to his users.”

 

Although the full implementation is not yet completely finalised, Dimithri already notices a significant time saving. “This is mainly thanks to the Trust Center,” he believes. “Getting NDAs signed, compiling and sending documents used to take days. Today, thanks to the automated platform, it happens in just a few minutes.” For the other modules, he expects similar efficiency gains once the entire platform is operational.
